A musical with a message .. and we're only getting started.

We’re thrilled to share that Jessica Carmona and Diane Currie Sam are the recipients of the 2024 Artivist Award, presented by Adelphi University and sponsored by the Sing for Hope Foundation.
The award celebrates artists who use their creative work to inspire social change. And that’s exactly what Diane and Jessica have done with their original musical, Olivia O.
Olivia O follows the journey of a young girl caught in a harsh immigration system, weaving together themes of compassion, injustice, and community action. The musical explores the emotional impact of family separation while also shining a light on the broader realities of immigration—why families leave their homes, and what they face when they arrive.
"I would say the message of Olivia O is about hope. While it doesn't shy away from the harshness of what Olivia goes through when she is separated from her mother, it alsohighlights the power of everyday people to make a difference" says co-writer/lyricist Jessica Carmona.
Inspired by real-life activists and community movements, the story reminds audiences that change often begins when people come together and choose empathy over indifference.
"I believe that storytelling, and especially storytelling through music and art is one of the most powerful forces of change available to us" says Diane Currie Sam, co-writer/lyricist ".. and I want to thank Adelphi University and Song for Hope for believing that too."
The Artivist Award recognizes that blend of art, storytelling and activism. It honours creators who believe that art can open minds, spark conversations, and move people toward action.
Olivia O is proof that when artists lead with heart, their work can truly make an impact!
Join us in celebrating this achievement—and in continuing the conversation about how art can help build a more compassionate world.
