Causing a stir, and bringing the heat .. 🔥

So happy to announce we won the Tom Hendry award from the Playwright's Guild of Canada .. the Dan School of Drama & Music Musical Award for 2025!!

The Tom Hendry Awards celebrate excellence in new Canadian plays, shining a spotlight on bold voices and original storytelling across the country. To have Olivia O recognized in this space feels especially meaningful.

After earning the 2024 Artivist Award from Adelphi University and the Sing for Hope Foundation, this Canadian honour brings the journey full circle.

For Diane Currie Sam, the recognition at home carries particular weight.

“To be recognized in Canada, by fellow playwrights and theatre artists, means so much to me,” she shared. “This is where I live, where I write, and where this story was born. It feels incredibly special to have Olivia O celebrated here.”

Co-created with Jessica Carmona, with music by Gil Yaron and Angela Ortiz, Olivia O continues to resonate for its powerful storytelling, emotional depth, and commitment to compassion and community.

We are deeply grateful to the Playwrights Guild of Canada for this honour—and proud to see Canadian musical theatre shining on a national stage.

Here’s to stories that travel far… and to recognition that feels like coming home.
